Not you, me. Why did I start a blog?
Well, let’s back up. Here’s a little about me. I’m 46 years old. I was born in Singapore, grew up in New Jersey. Undergrad in California, med school and graduate school in Michigan, residency and fellowship in Colorado… Yup, you read that right. After SEVENTEEN years of post-graduate education (during which I got married and had 2 kids), I finally got my first job. The kids were doing great. I had spent so long having a singular focus on tending to my family and my career, but had not read a book for pleasure or tended to a single personal hobby during that entire time. That chunk of time of necessary, I think- to every thing a season, right? I felt proud of the expertise that I had built and the thriving family I had around me… But I felt a little lost too, wondering “now what?” Is this it? Should I be happy now?
There’s more to life than working.
It took me a long time of feeling my way forward, but it’s been over a decade since I finished training. I’ve found a new equilibrium. I still love my job as a physician, but I have built space to pursue other things. I’m a life-long learner and I’ve always got a new project going on… I have had so many friends on social media as me to share the details on some of my passions and projects, and how I weave them into my rich and busy life. It is my hope you a find a post here that sparks your interest, that you assemble the materials with a couple of clicks and spend several hours spread over weeks trying something new. Or that you at least read a blog post like this and know that you are not alone. 🙂
Lots of love,
Sara
